Learning to name it.
Learning to process our emotions in a healthy way was not the norm or taught to us as children. As a result, many of us grow up turning to other vices in order to help us cope with emotional distressing moments. I learned to cope with the hard moments of my life by overeating. I gained a lot of weight, and didn't get rid of the stress. It has taken many years going through God's healing process were I can finally take time, stop and begin to identify and deal with the real issues, instead of running to food for false comfort. Some of the steps I've learned; 1. It only takes one question to start the identifying process. - Why am I.....? Sad, angry, depressed...etc. 2. Taking the next moment to breathe and ask God for His peace. 3 Write it down- Learning to journal has given me a way to begin to peel back my feelings, and get to the true emotion that pushing the feeling. Just because you feel something that feels real, doesn't mean it is. Once I am able to get to the truth, then I can go to Father God and His Word knowing what promise to look for so I can gain the peace He promised He give us.
