The wrong standard!
When the revelation of this scripture hit my spirit, a new level of freedom was released! Wait...What? You mean to tell me just because my flesh, my carnal nature, my body is screaming for something that will bring temporary satisfaction, I don't have to obey it? All of the years I spend running at the smallest whims of my appetite and I wasn't obligated to do it? Wow, the years I spent, spent running after things that will never filled my heart, just because I had an urge to do it, or to eat it. This standard that is set up by the dictates of the flesh was formed in us at a time of great distress. We learned very early that we may not get our way with other people, but we can get away with things we don't hold ourselves accountable to. Now depending on where you are in your process, you may still have issues with the "flesh standard", due to not being willing to or not knowing how commit to the healthier boundaries you would like to be a part of your life. You find that indeed there is a fight going on all the time. You want to do right, but can't find the power to do it. Rom. 7:18 What do you do with your body if it's out of control body. Tell it NO! Titus 2:11-12 11. For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, Saying no to ourselves is something we were not taught to do. We grow up in our family environment that for the most part we heard a lot of (no's) No, you can't do this or that and should have been that way because if we were able to do all the things we wanted, I'm sure many of us would not be living today. Because of hearing the word no so much, we decided without even knowing it that we would say yes to ourselves and we said yes to a lot of things we should have said NO to. This led us to saying yes to bad eating habits, and bad relationships that has caused us much pain during our life. Here's the good news! We can still turn this ship around! It will take time, effort, patience and a lot of NO's Making a new commitment to yourself is the first thing to do, just this one thing can make a world of difference. When we begin to say no to our bodily appetites, we begin the process of saying yes. Yes to what? Yes to better health, by saying no to junk food. Yes to being more rested, by saying no to staying up late. Yes to better physical health, by saying no to hitting the snooze button and getting up early to workout. Yes to better relationship, by saying no to angry and fear concerning relational issues. We see that by saying NO to the standard set up by the dictates of the flesh, we are saying YES to all that God has for us. Say no today, so your YES can begin.
